Finitude: Sad or Freeing
Blade Runner and some other films we watched in class express the meaninglessness of our temporary time on this earth. A main point of conflict for the Replicants in that film was similar to the conflict in our lives. That is the fear of the end. The unknown of death is a fear that many humans face at least one point in our lives.
Our time on Earth is fleeting. In the grand scheme of things we are but a vapor. We are there and gone in the same second. Many movies depict this fact as a sad or challenging thing but could it also be freeing. In Wings of Desire, the end that humans have is a point of envy for the angels. To feel the passing of time is their goal. Having an end to the trip journey or day make what happens that day or on that journey all that much more enjoyable. Christmas for instance is such a joy filled day because it only happens once a year not in spite of it.
Could finitude be what makes life enjoyable?
