Burning of the Cathedral
Recently, the cathedral of Notre Dame caught on fire, causing a great deal of damage, and the legendary steeple to fall. This cathedral has stood for hundreds of years, and is a global staple for the Christian church. To see its burning is one of the saddest moments of the last decade, and a cause for great disturbance for Christians all over the world. Since then, there have been hundreds of very wealthy people all over the world to donate millions of dollars to help fix the cathedral. This generosity to see is something of a miracle in itself, yet many people are calling for that money not to go to the rebuilding of the Cathedral.
Instead of simply rebuilding the Cathedral, many people are calling for that money to go towards other endeavors, because that is millions of dollars that could change something else for the better. I for one agree with this notion. While yes, I would love to see the cathedral returned to its former glory, I believe that there are many more problems that money could be better off helping, such as poverty rates all over the world, hunger, disease, and the denial of basic human rights. The church has stood for over 800 years as a symbol of the Christian church, which is supposed to be a symbol of Christs love for his people. Instead of rebuilding a building, maybe try to use that money to help Christ's people.
