Wings of Desire 1

Wings of Desire features a depiction of Angels. Angels in this film are human like creatures who watch over us as we live our daily lives. Their only purpose is to observe. All else is of no consequence to their existence. They cannot participate in our lives or directly impact our lives. They seemingly have no reason to exist. While most have an idea that Angels are existing on a higher plane than humans, in this film the angels look on at the humans with envy. One key point of envy is the effects of time.

The Angels seem to be jealous of the finitude of human existence. The idea of an end, which so many humans dread, is the same thing that the angels of the film long for. The film depicts the transformation from endless life in the plane off the angels to the passing and fleeting time of angels by the introduction of color. The angels world is devoid of color. This movie asks the question, is the fact that we have an end the reason that life has meaning?
