Thin Red Line
The ideas behind the film Thin Red Line are what really gets to me. The film does a great job in its entirety of showing different viewpoints of battle, with very unique camera angles. One of the focal points of the film was the taking of a massive hill, that would give the American forces the upper hand to take the whole island. During these battles, many lives are lost and a lot is given up just to take the hill. However, during the battle while countless men are being gunned down, a bright blue butterfly gracefully floats across the screen depicting that nature is outside the battles of man. It shows that nature will continue to do what nature does, regardless of how men are reacting to one another at the time.
The other major point that stood out to me was the lengths to which the colonial went to secure the high ground. This was the first time that he had seen battle, even though he had been in the military for some time (multiple years) at that point. He was willing to do anything for the personal gain of himself, even if that meant losing many men over something very treatable, like dehydration. This goes to show the lengths that man is willing to go for personal gain, even at the cost of other men.
