The Hero's Journey
One reading that I wanted to focus on was “The Hero’s
Journey.” I chose this reading because I felt that there were a lot of
similarities that showed up in the article in relation to the spiritual
journey. The Hero’s Journey basically involves a hero who goes on an adventure
and in a crisis, wins a victory and then comes home changed or transformed. The
spiritual journey is similar in the sense that usually the person who goes
through the journey wants to find out who they are, what their problems in life
are, and how to come to peace with the world. This is more of a spiritual side
of a person and sometimes more so for themselves rather than others. The Hero’s
journey can be focused on the individual, but a lot of times it also focuses on
other people. I find it interesting though how both types of journeys mention
people who help the protagonist along the way and other challenges that test
the protagonist in order to teach them their true meaning. The intersection of
the two journey’s really interests me.
