The Four Loves: C.S. Lewis and Wings of Desire
C.S. Lewis's The Four Loves explores the nature of love and the differing forms that love can take. The four loves explored are Stroge (affection), Philia (friendship), Eros (sensual), Agape (Love in the spiritual sense or sacrificial).
The movie Wings of Desire explores the love of one of the Angels with a human. But what kind of love did he hold for the human woman. He looked over humans for years. He never aged or got sick or died. He could not interact. Still he fell in love with a human. Is it possible to love someone who you have never truly met? He never spoke to her for even a second and yet was yearned for her affection.
It could be this Agape love that C.S. Lewis described as sacrificial love. He gave up being an angel for the woman. Everything he knew you wanted to leave to be a human and also to know her better.
