Music in the Movies
Not every good movie has a great score to go along with it. But having good music in film can change the dynamic of the film entirely. Music has a way of engaging our emotions. Have you ever heard a song before that altered how your day was going? Maybe you woke up on the wrong side of the bed but then your favorite song comes on and after listening to it your mood is completely changed. Or maybe you're completely happy and then a song comes on that drudges up old sad feelings.
Movie scores have the ability to shift a scene. If a dramatic moment is coming or a sad time or a scary scene, you can hear it and feel it in the shifting energy of the score. Is music the only thing that can elicit that emotional response? Or is there some other form of expression that touches us in the same way.
