Humanity's roll towards the divine
Since the beginning, humans have wondered about their place in the universe. We have never really understood right exactly where we belonged. Obviously, we are not all powerful, as we have countless faults and limitations. However, we seem to be greater than simple plants or animals. From that, we can see that we are somewhere in between the simple and the divine. From this, we get the idea of religion. People have been using different forms of religion to help understand the things we do not forever. During Ancient Greek and roman times, they had gods with natural characteristics and human-like qualities. However, that type of God has all but died out in the modern world. We see very few people around the world that identify as polytheistic.
Most of the time, humans generally identify as either a monotheist, or one that does not recognize a supreme higher power, much like a buddhist or atheist. However, most philosophers have used logic and reason to argue for the existence of a God, if for nothing else, then for creation alone. However, this is not what most modern religions teach.
If we can find scientific proof of things hundreds of light years away from us right now, how can we have no scientific proof of the divine. The reason that most Christians/Muslims/Jews would give is that God is much too great to be encompassed by science alone. So, would that not make the study of science not all encompassing like originally believed? Where does God fit? How do we find answers to these questions?
