Film Techniques

The short film "Bunny" uses film techniques of lighting, music, and changing camera angles to add meaning to the film. The light from the inside of the oven is symbolic of "going towards the light' or dying, when the bunny dies. Also, the music goes more upbeat during the climatic parts of the film adding excitement. Lastly, the changing camera angles gives the viewer different perspectives. A specific example is the camera angle showing the bunny going deep into the oven and into the afterlife.

The film Paris, Texas uses background symbols to add to the meaning of the movies. Travis is lost mentally, and to show that he wonders around outside. Not only does he wonder around, it is more important to show that he is not on a path. He follows his own path. Also, after a while it does appear that he has began to follow the power lines. This adds some direction in his life, as he gets more connected with his family.

In "Harold and Maude", the director uses different camera angles and zooming to add effect. When Harold responds wittily to his mother, the camera shows him making a smirk, as if to show that is what he meant. Then zooms out to show his mother's reaction.
