Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel used a wide range of techniques that I think appealed to many audiences. Firstly, I think the use of a woman as the main character and the hero is significant in many ways. Comparing this to other S.H.I.E.L.D Marvel movies, most of the heroes are men including: the Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man and Thor. I am glad the director used Captain Marvel as the main hero and thought we saw a different mentality and attitude from the actor compared to previous movies. Next, I want to touch on the symbolism in the film. I thought the director did a great job of using the symbol of a gold star on her hero suit at the end of the movie to represent the United States Air Force. She used to be a member of the Air Force before she lost her memory and I thought this was a good way to portray it. Finally, I thought her transition from believing that the Kree were enemies of her mission to helping them save their families and switch sides proved a strong theme of the film. This theme is to not always trust a book by its cover and to open-minded and listen to multiple perspectives.
