Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel implored many themes relevant to this course such as identity and memory. Throughout the movie the director used humor and film techniques to convey these themes. Vers is confused on who she is in the beginning, she gets flashes of who she once was but can't remember who she is. Her identity is unknown to her. The Kree people take advantage of Vers absence of knowledge by shaping her into someone they could use to their advantages. This provides a contrast from when the Skrull capture Carol. They capture her with the intent of finding their hidden family and a safe new home away from war. The Kree on the other hand lie to Carol and tell her the Skrull are the bad ones. This ties in with the search for Carol's true identity throughout the movie. Carol ends up remembering parts of her life and being told the other parts by people that she considered her family. By the end of the movie, Carol finds her true identity and her true family. She ends up embracing who she truly is and doesnt let her emotions get it the way of her defeating her mentor. Carol acknowledges her true identity through the immersion of accepting her true memory and dismissing the fabricated memories created by the Kree people.
