Captain Marvel and feminism
The interesting and most controversial part about Captain Marvel is the fact that it portrays a very strong female lead character. This is something that isn't seen very often, and one of the reasons that the movie blew up in the way that it did. However, one of the biggest arguments against this movie was that it might not have been seen as all encompassing to all religions if the viewer was of a faith that demoralizes the role of women in their society. This is to say that the specific society would care less about what a woman thinks than what a man would.
While yes, this may have been true for some areas of the world, I think that the problem was obviously not with the movie itself, but more of a societal problem that there are still places in the world that would see THIS as a problem. The fact that there are still areas that would consider not to show this movie, or even worry about its popularity for the reason of a strong female character and that alone. This baffles me, because we obviously know the equality of men and women, yet it is not shown around the world, and the argument could be made that equality is not universal in even the United States. How does this change? What could we do to make it so it is equal without the belittling of women or men?
