Buddhism in Groundhog Day

I chose this film to focus on because we watched this film as one of the first films in this class. I think that it is interesting to look at the film in another viewpoint contrary to the viewpoint that we looked at it as with the spiritual journey and the presence of rituals. The viewpoint that I want to focus on is how Buddhism plays into the film. One major point in the film that is shown is that every action has consequences. The law of karma is very similar. Everyone has a choice, but each choice does lead to something new. This is the same with Phil in Groundhog Day. He relives the same day every day yet each day he does something new, something different. Depending on what he does, the outcome is always different but at the end of the day he has a choice to make and each choice he makes produces a new outcome. With this being said, this relates back to karma because with new choices, calls for new adjustments, and that always has a new ending. It’s just like the sayings, karma always has a way of coming back around and so do the outcomes of the choices you make, just like Phil in Groundhog Day.
