Blade Runner: Who is God?
The symbol of God in Blade Runner is embodied by Tyrell. The character of Tyrell is the creator of the replicants. He made them and implants them with the memories of different people. This is similar to the story of God creating man in his image. The replicants are made to look exactly like humans but only live four years.
The character Roy, is at one point called "son" by Tyrell. This coupled with the scene of him stabbing the nail through his hand before saving Deckard makes him the Jesus symbol. My fascination is with the scene of Roy killing Tyrell.
The way he did it was fascinating too. He stabbed his eyes out and killed after asking if there is a replicant heaven for him to go to. Is the message of these symbols that Jesus is/was mad at God for some reason?
